Lauren Etzkorn, D.A.R.E Youth Advisory Board Illinois Representative
Hi! My name is Lauren Etzkorn and I am the D.A.R.E Youth Advisory Board Representative for Illinois because I believe and follow the lessons that D.A.R.E teaches. I was able to participate in the D.A.R.E. program when I was in 5th Grade at Schiesher Elementary School in Lisle, IL.
The same year I was taking D.A.R.E., I experienced the loss of my uncle to a drug overdose. It is extremely difficult to watch someone abuse drugs, and it was especially difficult for me because I lost the opportunity to get to know and spend time with my uncle. I believe that staying drug and violence free is the best—and only—way to live your life, so I am looking forward to being part of the D.A.R.E. Youth Advisory Board (YAB). I am excited to work in my state to share the D.A.R.E. message.
I enjoy helping others and volunteering. I love working with kids through Lisle Teens with Character and volunteer with many youth activities. I also hope to volunteer more at Illinois Math and Science Academy this coming year. Most importantly, I want to represent D.A.R.E. while leading a healthy and drug free life.
I am planning to participate in events, speak at graduations, promote D.A.R.E., and more importantly be a role model for D.A.R.E. I plan to work hard to help young people be drug and violence free and do my best to make a difference in my community. To me, this is the first step in a long life of helping others and trying my best to make the world a healthier and happier place. I am excited for my first year as a youth representative and cannot wait to help others with the D.A.R.E. organization the same way the D.A.R.E. organization has helped me.
