Montgomery D.A.R.E. Officer Gets Surprise Award
MONTGOMERY CO., AL (WSFA) – A Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy got a surprise congratulations for his hard work trying to keep kids off drugs. Friday, Corporal Kofee (KOE-FEE) Anderson was named the 2015 D.A.R.E Officer of the Year!
Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham surprised Anderson at Catoma Elementary School, honoring him for his help in growing the D.A.R.E. program, which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, by teaching about substance abuse and prevention.
It’s a a message Cpl. Anderson says should start at home.
“You know it starts young,” he explained. “These kids have to be responsible. The parents have to be responsible. Keep you eyes on your kids,” he urged. “You have to ask your kids, get in their business, get in their cell phones, get on their Facebook pages, their Twitter pages. Get in their and find out what’s going on with them. You are the parent,” he reminded. “Take control of your child.”
Corporal Anderson has dedicated the last 15 years to working with the D.A.R.E. program.
