On Saturday, August 26, 2017, the students, parents, and teachers of the Tracy Police Department D.A.R.E. program, led by Officer Steve Abercrombie, collected, sorted, and boxed over 7,000 books for the African Library Project

The books collected earlier in the summer already had an impact beyond measure on deprived junior high school students in the Volta Region of Ghana. Bright Edem Kofi Adeti, a teacher in a prize-winning school in the region, said, “God listened to our prayers; books arrived from our hardworking brothers and sisters in Tracy, CA.” Read more about what Edem said.

The books collected on Saturday will be going to Sierra Leone and Kenya. Tracy D.A.R.E. parents, teachers, and students have now contributed enough books for 31 libraries in Africa.

The efforts of the Tracy D.A.R.E. program remind us good decision making transcends the classroom and caring and helping others knows no borders.
