Proceeds support designated car program.

The Monett Police Department is seeking donations to support the Drug Abuse Resistance Education car program.

“Monett Police Chief George Daoud has designated one of the department’s Dodge Chargers as the D.A.R.E. car, and the goal of this project is to give students of the school district ownership in the project,” said Jay Jastal, school resource officer and D.A.R.E. instructor.

Students enrolled in the graphic arts class at Scott Regional Technology Center in Monett have created several designs for the car, with intermediate school students voting on and selecting the winning design.

Students enrolled in automotive and auto body classes at SRTC have already completed some work on the vehicle and have agreed to provide additional upgrades.

When completed, the car will be used daily, as well as at public and school presentations and special events.

“We hope the community will continue to support the D.A.R.E. program through their generous donations,” Jastal said.

All donations will benefit the D.A.R.E. program and be held in a separate account from other city assets.

Donations may be mailed to: Monett D.A.R.E., Attn: D.A.R.E. program, 1901 E. Cleveland, Monett, MO 65708.

For more information on becoming an ongoing supporter or sponsor, people may call Daoud or Jastal at 417-235-4241.
