“SCHOOL SHOOTING INSIGHT & RESPONSE:  
LESSONS LEARNED”

D.A.R.E. America invites conference participants to a special presentation as a timely response to the issue of mass shootings in a school setting. The presenters, on-site first responders, will share their insights and perspective of the events as they occurred. There have been dozens of tragic shooting incidents involving multiple victims at K-12 schools. These horrific crimes have been a world wide experience, occurring not only in the U.S., but across the globe.

Chardon High School – Chardon, Ohio

On the early morning of February 27, 2012, a male student with a .22 caliber handgun walked into the Chardon High School cafeteria and began shooting. Ten rounds later, three male students were killed and three others wounded with one of being paralyzed. The initial response and the tragedy’s aftermath will be presented by the police officials on the scene that day including Chardon Chief of Police Timothy McKenna.

Tasso da Silveira Municipal School – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

In April, 2011, gunman Wellington Menezes de Oliviera, walked into a school and shot 24 students, killing ten girls and two boys. The gunman was observed carrying two revolvers and large amount of ammunition. After killing the students the gunman shot himself leaving a note asking for forgiveness.
