Ste. Genevieve Elementary Celebrates Graduation For 101 D.A.R.E. Program Participants

Ste. Genevieve Elementary School hosted a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) graduation ceremony on December 19 at the Ste. Genevieve R-II Performing Arts Center.

The program was for fifth-grade students who completed the D.A.R.E. program. A total of 101 graduates participated in the 10-week program.

School resource officer and D.A.R.E. officer Christy Clark welcomed guests, shared an overview of the program and presented the essay awards.

The essay contest recognized three winners from each fifth-grade class; the first place winner in each class read their essay to the audience.

The essay winners were:

Johna Bequette’s class — first, Sadie Greminger; second, Brooklyn Johnson; third, Autumn Werner.

Suzette Mudd’s class — first, Jayden Rickman; second, Kayden Huck; third, Damian Dickerson.

Ann Reynolds’ class — first, Shay Coleman; second, Lexie Warren; third, Karter Worley.

Kerri Steiger-James’s class — first, Abby Boyer; second, Morgan Smith; third, Drake Weibrecht.

Fifth-grade students were presented graduation awards by Mudd and Reynolds.

The graduates performed the D.A.R.E. song for the audience, led by elementary school music teachers Lacey Bauman and Nathan Kingery.

Connie’s Buy the Bunch Florist, Rozier’s Country Mart, McDonald’s joined with Ste. Genevieve R-II teachers and staff, principal Geralyn Diesel and assistant principal Nanya Gegg in supporting the D.A.R.E. program.
