29th D.A.R.E. International Conference

D.A.R.E. America held our 29th D.A.R.E International Training Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on July 19-21, 2016.  In attendance at the conference were 8 of our D.A.R.E. Youth Advocacy Board members.

Our 8 Youth Advocacy Board members were able to join us as volunteers, assisting D.A.R.E. America in making the conference a success!  Each YAB assisted in varies volunteer activities ranging from staffing registration booths, participating in Opening Ceremony Flag Parade, and handing out awards on stage.

Congratulations on a job well done!  All Youth Advocacy Board Members are encouraged to participate in all D.A.R.E. America activities and projects!

Youth Advocacy Board Member Conference Testimonials:

conference-2016“I just had a tremendous time at the International D.A.R.E. Conference. I enjoyed the experience in meeting officers and supporters from around the country and world. It shows me that D.A.R.E. is not only an impact company in the United States but also in the world.”

–  Kobe Blackwell: Arizona

“…It was very interesting meeting people with the same passion from all over the United States. It’s cool to see all of the different types of people and to be pushed outside of my comfort zone. Retro Bill gets a huge thumbs up from me for helping us all through the videos. I loved the karaoke/ dance night in Atlanta. Officers were friendly and the D.A.R.E. America members were super sweet and easy to get close to. Thank you guys for the wonderful experiences.”

– Megan Kirchoff: Missouri

“…Interactions with the officers/ attendees was enjoyable, and everyone was extremely friendly while I was registering them for their workshops and during the many events that took place[…] I really enjoyed participating in the activities and getting to know everyone better and would say that the conference was a success and that I had a wonderful time. I cannot wait for next year!”

– Lauren Etzkorn:  Illinois

“It was fun spending time with my fellow YAB’s and meeting different officers across the United States! I loved listening to the different speakers and award winners! They seriously have a burning passion to make the world a better, safer, and drug free place. I hope that with all these new technological advances and adjustments D.A.R.E becomes even more popular and used more effectively in schools”

– Tori Streater: Texas

“…I loved hearing the different stories of how people got involved and why. Also, I had the opportunity to use my Spanish skills and communicate to the Spanish speaking officers as I was the only YAB who had the ability to. It was amazing being able to use this skill in real life. This conference was so much fun and I learned a ton of information about the behind the scenes of DARE that I never knew before.”

– Denali Johns: Connecticut

conference-2016“I would then like to thank all of the DARE America staff for the incredible experience at the International conference. It was nothing like I thought it would be. I loved getting to be a part of the flag ceremony and walking down with the Wisconsin flag. It was also so much fun and I loved being a part of trophy presentations”

– Maggie Engnes: Wisconsin

“…It was nice to meet other Youth Advisors from other parts of the country. It was also nice to hear about other things that they are doing and involved with in their respective states. While there helping, I had an opportunity to meet D.A.R.E. Officers as they were registering for classes. You could tell that they were there to learn, have some fun, and see old friends.”

–  Ryan Collins: Missouri

conference-2016“This was my first time attending and volunteering at the D.A.R.E conference, and I had a great time. I was good to have the experience to interact and meet all of the D.A.R.E officers from all over the world. Also it was great to see and meet some new YAB’s. One thing I enjoyed the most was the flag ceremony, I had the opportunity of walking with the states Florida, New York, and Canada.”

– Hattie Powers: Arkansas

Additional Testimony:

I had the great privilege & honor to attend this with my granddaughter Megan Kirchoff whom is part of YAB. What a great presentation. Have a whole new perspective of our men & woman who protect & serve and lay their life on the line everyday.

Sincerely Erika Brekalo (Chaperone)

7 YABs were also at the conference to represent their myPlaybook PSA videos created in June 2016. Each of their myPlaybook PSA videos was played at the conference for all attendees to view and appreciate. Conference attendees expressed their appreciation the creativity shown by the YABs. Each of the YABs was excited to be able to represent and be able to show the audience their videos. However, it was not just the YAB members that were excited, the officers in attendance at the conference voiced their amazement at the work and effort each YAB put in to creating their PSA video. Officers and staff alike at the conference expressed their opinion on the work each YAB member put in to make their project a resounding success.

This is one great Youth Advocacy Board team!
